about
Producer Amerigo Gazaway and Napoleon Da Legend flex their creative chemistry on a new collaborative project, “The World Changed”.
Connecting on the outset of the Covid pandemic, the duo’s rapper-producer formula showcases NDL’s introspective lyricism while highlighting Gazaway’s growth and evolution as a beatsmith.
“Amerigo and I connected in a time of great turmoil and change both on a planetary scale but also on a personal scale in both our lives. His ear for highlighting the “soul” of a sample really gave me the space to dial into the many emotions I was sorting through during that period.” - Napoleon Da Legend
Working in tandem to keep the cohesion heard throughout the album’s 16 song tracklist, NDL finds his pocket on a range of emotions over versatile beats composed with Gazaway’s signature nuances, scratch hooks and interview soundbites.
“This is an album about survival...it’s about navigating and adapting to an ever-changing world while struggling to maintain one’s sanity and peace of mind. Napoleon is a true master of his craft as a poet/storyteller and I think that’s something that really shines through on this record." - Amerigo Gazaway
With assists from vocalist La Bruja, Brooklyn’s Skyzoo, and three appearances from rapper Awon, 'The World Changed' delivers focused bars rooted in boom-bap and soul.
lyrics
[Napoleon Da Legend verse]
The landscapes competitive we all just wanna best each other
Word to Combat I see the world in technicolor
Come to think I just wanted them to accept a brother
Now I just care less that’s something I would self-discover
I left my fear right by the wayside the slave mind
Got a pay job riding the wave of the baseline
Grey skies and rain great time for a climate change
The future looking promising alive and I’m a honor it
Chronicle my life this is my audio-biography
Peers dropping like dominos guess I’m an anomaly
Stubborn to a fault I don’t listen to the non-believers
Bye Felicia ya services no longer needed
Dreamer to a fault I’m a king true or false?
That’s a label anyways I’m grown too evolved
If only truth could talk back in school as a youth I fought
I felt I had something to prove and that was food for thought
Moved to New York like a blank slate
Living with a Polish girl rented out a room and now ya man straight
Got my feet wet broke bed I didn’t sleep well
Then I did a song with a member from the Decepts
Rest In Peace Sean that stays embedded in my gratitude
Adapted grew faster just doing what I had to do
Cause I remember when I had nothing and wasn’t moving
Trusted my gut jumped off the cliff it was nothing to it
Cause
[Napoleon Da Legend hook]
Tomorrow’s not promised
And there’s levels like double entendres
Watching what I feed my sub-conscious
It’s a slow process through the years
I came I saw I conquered
The truth is
Tomorrow’s not promised
And there’s levels like double entendres
Watching what I feed my sub-conscious
It’s a slow process through the years
I came I saw I conquered
[Napoleon Da Legend verse]
My vulnerabilities displayed for all the world to see
Close my eyes noticing I got universe in me
That I didn’t learn from studies at universities
You’ll never score if keep shooting the rock nervously
Evangelion terrestrial pedestrian
That’s meta I’m riding my mecha like an equestrian
That’s Neo Genesis fighting against the prejudice
Money you make, IRS will get 30 percent of it
An immigrant who’s family came for a better life
Meet death at night the next day resurrected till I get it right
Page 64 stickers on my vision board
My spirit animals a lion like the house of Gryffindor
Friendships come and go
Some will die some will grow
Barely time on earth to leave a mark then it’s time to go
So I’m putting forward my best foot on my Westbrook
And strictly disregarding the guidelines from the text book
Deceptive left hook bob and weave stop and breath
And slowly building my empire like Constantine
Form the proper team of futuristic thinkers
Till we super rich on some Cuban links wisdom
But it goes beyond accumulating figures
We treasure the experience
If you anything like us that means you hearing us
My soul indigenous staring out of staircases
In the city handling my problems like mayor faces
Look in the mirror
[Napoleon Da Legend hook]
Tomorrow’s not promised
And there’s levels like double entendres
Watching what I feed my sub-conscious
It’s a slow process through the years
I came I saw I conquered
The truth is
Tomorrow’s not promised
And there’s levels like double entendres
Watching what I feed my sub-conscious
It’s a slow process through the years
I came I saw I conquered
